Planning better use of land and natural resources to guide provincial development
Following years of economic blockade and conflict, the quality of life, basic infrastructure and services were lagging in many provinces of Iraq. To meet emerging needs of provinces, the Government of Iraq recognized the need for improved planning. Provincial structural plans would need to align with national reconstruction efforts, improve the use of land and water unique to each province and build quality services for local citizens.
Hydro Nova was part of a team that developed infrastructure and reconstruction plans to inform planning and development decisions over the next 25 years in six Iraqi provinces—Muthanna, Babil, Anbar, Thi-Qar, Maysan and Basra. From 2010 to 2014, our experts collected data, set up the planning process and framework, and advised the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works and provincial governments on prioritizing projects for greatest impact. These plans led to construction of major projects in transport, water resources, environment, water supply and sanitation, ultimately helping to improve the lives of millions of Iraqis.
